If you know the year you were born, your age today is this year minus your birth year, less one if your birthday has not happened yet. The lists on this page do that arithmetic for every birth year from the past ninety-odd years, and for every age from 1 to 100, using today's date to say which side of your birthday you are on. Why there are two possible ages

A birth year on its own cannot pin down an age, because your birthday falls somewhere inside the year. Someone born in 1990 is one number of years old before their birthday this year and one more after it. Each line in the lists gives both numbers and the date that decides between them, so you can read off the right one in a second.

Generations by birth year

Silent Generation: born 1928 to 1945
Baby Boomers: 1946 to 1964
Generation X: 1965 to 1980
Millennials: 1981 to 1996
Generation Z: 1997 to 2012
Generation Alpha: 2013 onward

These are the commonly used cut-offs (as defined by Pew Research Center); other sources draw the lines a year or two differently.

Why does my age depend on my birthday?

Because age counts completed years. Until your birthday arrives you are still the age you turned last year, so the current year minus your birth year is one too high until then.
