Financial Year Calculator
About This Calculator
The financial year calculator tells you which financial year (FY) any date falls in and how far through that year you are. It opens on today's date, so you can see the current financial year straight away, and you can enter any other date to check it.
In India the financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March and is written as a pair of years — the year it starts and the year it ends. So the period from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 is FY 2026-27. Income earned in a financial year is assessed in the following assessment year; FY 2026-27 corresponds to assessment year 2027-28.
For any date you choose, the calculator shows the financial year label, the exact start and end dates, which fiscal quarter the date falls in (Q1 is April–June), how many days into the year it is, and how many days remain. That makes it useful for tax planning, closing the books, tracking how much of the year is left to hit a target, or simply settling which FY a transaction belongs to.
The date sits at the heart of the answer: a date on or after 1 April belongs to the financial year beginning that April, while a date in January, February, or March belongs to the financial year that began the previous April. The calculator handles that boundary automatically, and because the maths runs in a timezone-safe way, the same date always returns the same financial year.
To use it, read today's financial year on load, or pick a date and press Find the financial year. For other countries, see the UK tax year, Australian financial year, and US fiscal year calculators; to count the days between two dates within a year, the days between dates calculator does that.

Formula & Methodology
The result is worked out as follows:
FY = the year window containing the date; progress = days elapsed ÷ total days
The financial year is the 1 April – 31 March window that contains the date: if the date is on or after 1 April it belongs to the year starting that April, otherwise to the year that started the previous April. Days elapsed is counted from 1 April to the date; days remaining runs to 31 March; the quarter is the three-month block from the FY start.
