Australian Financial Year Calculator

About This Calculator

The Australian financial year calculator tells you which financial year any date falls in. It opens on today's date so you can see the current FY at once, and you can enter any other date to check it.

In Australia the financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year and is written with both years, such as 2026-27 for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 (often shortened to FY27). This is the year the Australian Taxation Office uses for income tax, and the period most businesses report against.

For any date, the calculator shows the financial year label, its exact start and end dates, the quarter (Q1 is July–September), how many days into the year the date is, and how many days remain until 30 June. That is useful for preparing tax returns, timing deductible expenses, running end-of-financial-year (EOFY) sales, and closing the books.

A date on or after 1 July belongs to the financial year starting that July; a date from 1 January to 30 June belongs to the financial year that began the previous July. The calculator applies that boundary automatically, and its timezone-safe maths means a date always returns the same financial year.

To use it, read the current financial year on load, or choose a date and press Find the financial year. For other countries, see the India financial year, UK tax year, and US fiscal year calculators; to count the days to your own EOFY deadline, use the days between dates calculator.

How It Works

  1. Choose a date (defaults to today).
  2. Click “Find the financial year”.
  3. See which financial year it falls in, the start and end dates, and how far through you are.

Formula & Methodology

The result is worked out as follows:

FY = the year window containing the date; progress = days elapsed ÷ total days

The Australian financial year is the 1 July – 30 June window containing the date: the year starting this July if the date is on or after 1 July, otherwise the year that started the previous July. Days remaining runs to 30 June; the quarter is the three-month block from 1 July.
