Age Difference Calculator

About This Calculator

The age difference calculator measures the gap between two people's ages. Enter two dates of birth and it returns the difference in years, months, and days — the precise amount by which one person is older than the other.

Age gaps come up constantly: between partners, siblings, classmates, colleagues, or historical figures. A rough "about three years" is often all people quote, but the exact gap is a fixed quantity that never changes over time, and it can be satisfying to know it to the day. Unlike a person's age, which grows every year, the difference between two birth dates stays the same forever — so you only ever need to calculate it once.

You can enter the two dates in either order; the calculator figures out which is earlier and reports the gap as a positive amount. It uses complete calendar units and real month lengths, so the answer is accurate across month ends and leap years. Alongside the years-months-days breakdown, it shows the total number of days between the two births.

To use it, choose both dates of birth and press Compare ages. The result appears instantly, computed privately in your browser. If both dates are identical, it simply tells you the two people are the same age.

If you need a plain day count between any two dates rather than an age gap, the days between dates calculator does exactly that, and the standard age calculator turns a single date of birth into a current age.

How It Works

  1. Enter the first date of birth.
  2. Enter the second date of birth.
  3. Click “Compare ages” to see the gap.

Formula & Methodology

The result is worked out as follows:

Gap = complete years / months / days between the two births

The two dates of birth are ordered from earlier to later, then the gap is measured as complete years, months, and days — the same method as an age calculation, applied between two birth dates instead of between a birth date and today. The total-days figure is the plain day count between them.
